Teen still missing after 30 years


ELLENVILLE – State Police are continuing to investigate the disappearance of a teen 30 years ago.

On January 17, 1987 Lee Ann Helt reported her son, David Helt, 17, as missing. She told troopers her son did not return home after going out with friends the night of January 16.

Joseph Helt was last seen with three friends after their vehicle became disabled in snow on Sam’s Point Preserve. Helt walked off in the snow and has not been seen since.

He was last seen wearing a camouflage jackets, t-shirt, long sleeve thermal shirt, gray hooded sweatshirt and white high-top tennis shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call State Police Troop F at 845-344-5300. All calls can remain confidential.
