Red Hook voters approve high school auditorium

RED HOOK – Voters in the Red Hook Central School District approved construction of an auditorium on Tuesday, by an almost 3-1 margin. A total of 1,637 people voted in favor of the proposal while 615 opposed it.

Red Hook is the only district in the Hudson Valley without such a facility.

Of the $10 million cost, $6.5 million will be bonded with the state kicking in $3.5 million, secured by Assemblyman Kevin Cahill (D, Kingston). “This wonderful new facility promises to provide a venue for musical and theatrical talents, as well as much-needed space for the community to gather,” he said.

The impact to the local taxpayer is estimated at $2.25 per month for a home assessed at $200,000 with Basic Star credit.

The auditorium will be built on the south side of the gymnasium with construction during the summer 2019 through summer 2020.  First performances anticipated in the fall 2020.
