Newburgh Police chief could be appointed in weeks

NEWBURGH – City Manager Michael Ciaravino is interviewing the two successful candidates for Newburgh police chief and he may come to a decision in short order.

Those two finalists are the only people to have passed the most recent civil service test for the post and each has expressed interest in it.

Ciaravino had preliminary interviews with both candidates.

“I am proceeding to the next phase which is to obtain more information regarding each candidate’s background and then hoping to make, perhaps, a selection from these two candidates in relatively quick order,” he said. “I am hoping within the next few weeks there will be one I will be able to appoint.”

Lt. Aaron Weaver is the fourth acting officer in charge of the police department in the last couple of years pending selection of a permanent chief. When the last civil service test was administered, none of those who passed it were interested in taking the job.
