Three arrested in Marlboro on drug and weapons charges

MARLBORO – Three Marlboro residents were arrested and charged with drug and weapons possession. The arrests were made during a warrant search at 5 a.m. on July 28, but they were not announced until Sunday.

A residence on Prospect Street in the Town of Marlborough was the target following an investigation into drug sales in the area.

Members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team seized powder cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, digital scales, drug packaging materials, a loaded AR-15 assault rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun, two .22 caliber rifles and four high-capacity magazines.

Arrested were Joseph Montalbano, 20, Shane Lewis, 46, and Denise Stephens, 42, all of Marlboro.

Montalbano was charged with felonies of criminal possession of drugs, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal nuisance and conspiracy, as well as misdemeanors of criminal use f drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of marijuana. Additional charges may be pending for violations with the Ulster County Department of Probation. He was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash bail or $400,000 bond.

Lewis was charged with felonies of drug possession, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal nuisance and conspiracy and misdemeanors of criminal use of drug paraphernalia, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of marijuana. He was held without bail.

Stephens was charged with felonies of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal nuisance and conspiracy, and misdemeanors of criminal use of drug paraphernalia, criminal possession of drugs and criminal possession of marijuana.  Bail for Stephens was set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
