Still no decision where to locate new Beacon central firehouse

BEACON – City officials in Beacon have yet to decide where to locate a new central firehouse. The city has three firehouses and studies have recommended placing all units under one roof.

Mayor Randy Casale said discussion of potential locations is ongoing.

“I think we are going to try to get a grant from the county to look at the county building,” Casale said. “They looked at that property where the DMV is and they thought it was too tight and too small. I asked them what about if we have the county give us the building and the parking and we knock the building down and build one big unit, maybe have motor vehicle, city hall and the firehouse in there on that whole site.”

A task force looking into options has suggested locating at the city dog park on Route 52.
