MONTICELLO – Village police are crediting their K-9, Deca, with the arrested David Ward, 54, of Monticello on Friday August 4. Ward was arrested on a warrant for parole violation. He was additionally charged with misdemeanors for resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.

Late Friday afternoon, Monticello detectives and NYSP BCI investigators observed Ward walking on Route 42 in the Village of Monticello. When officers approached Ward, he ran off. A foot chase then ensued into the Monticello Housing Authority complex at Evergreen Drive.  Ward was eventually apprehended by Deca.

After receiving treatment for a canine bite to his right arm, Ward was placed in the Sullivan county jail without bail pending further court action.

Ward is currently on parole for a prior forgery conviction.
