ATV-riding burglary suspects arrested

THOMPSON – Two 17-year-old suspects who drove on ATVs to a residence at 3335 Route 42 South in the Town of Thompson and allegedly broke in by throwing a rock through a rear window, were arrested at the scene by Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies.

The crime occurred at around 12:44 p.m. on Thursday, April 13.

The suspects were found in possession of a stolen chainsaw, tools, an electrical testing meter and collectibles.

One suspect is from nearby School House Road and the other was from Piccadilly Circle in Rock Hill.

Both were charged with felony burglary and misdemeanors of criminal mischief and petit larceny. They were sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $3,000 bail each. Their names were not made public because of their age.

Sheriff Michael Schiff said “an alert neighbor saw something suspicious and called the police immediately.” He termed the arrest “a text book” case, reminding residents that if they see something, say something.
