MONTICELLO – A Monticello man is in the Sullivan County Jail without bail after a Saturday night incident that seriously injured to a four-month-old child. Monticello Police charged Keith Robert Jackson, 21, with two counts of felony assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree and misdemeanors for assault in the third degree and endangering the welfare of a child. He was also charged on an outstanding bench warrant from Monticello Village Court for failure to attend a victim impact panel for a prior DWAI by use of drugs arrest. This incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. Saturday, February 6 when police responded to a 911 call at 6 Woodcliff Avenue. A screaming 29-year-old woman told police Jackson had injured her baby. Jackson was standing in the front door, holding the unresponsive baby, who suffered from head trauma, police said. The infant, whose sex police did not identity, was flown to Westchester Medical Center, suffering from a cerebral hemorrhage, and was listed in serious condition on Sunday. An investigation revealed Jackson and the mother of the infant were involved in a domestic dispute. Jackson had attempted to leave the residence and go into the freezing weather with the child dressed only in pajamas. When the mother tried to stop him, Jackson bit her on the face. He then caused the infant’s head to strike several objects in the house, including a wall and a shelf, police said. |
