| Paramedic from Mahopac to be laid to rest in Kingston |
|
MAHOPAC - Hundreds of emergency services providers from throughout the region are in Kingston today paying their respects to Richard Quigley. Quigley, 46, who recently moved to Mahopac from his native Kingston, suffered a massive coronary and died last Saturday while stopping to assist motorists involved in a personal injury crash on the Taconic State Parkway in Stormville. State Police said Quigley was on his way home after completing a tour with the Trans Care Ambulance Service and was off duty when he stopped to assist. Witnesses advised police as Quigley got out of his car, he collapsed and despite efforts of passersby and fellow paramedics and EMT’s who rushed to the scene, he was pronounced dead at Putnam Hospital Center. Quigley was remembered this week as a “true professional” by Putnam County’s Director of Emergency Medical Services Robert Cuomo. “I observed Richard and worked side-by-side with him at the scene of several incidents. He was always caring and concerned and was a great medic,” he told the Putnam Courier. Robert Stuck, general manager of TransCare, agreed. “He just loved helping people. He lived his life to assist others.” Quigley was also employed as a corrections officer at the Dutchess County Jail and was a volunteer firefighter in Kingston. He had planned to join the Mahopac Fire Department later this year. Quigley is survived by two teenage sons. A large contingent of fire and EMS personnel is paying their respects to Quigley at the St. Mary’s Church funeral service.
