COCHECTON – The head-on crash on Route 97 in the Town of Cochecton claimed the lives of both drivers, State Police from the Liberty barracks reported on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at about 3:45 p.m. on Monday when a 2008 Audi A4 driven by James Card, 34, of Beach Lake, Pennsylvania, was traveling southbound when it was involved in a crash with a 2020 Hyundai Elantra traveling northbound, driven by Edward Sykes, 24, of North Branch.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The vehicles crashed near the double yellow lines in the center of the roadway.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
State Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed either vehicle prior to the incident to call them at 845-344-5300.
