Jet ski fire extinguished by Roosevelt firefighters

STAATSBURG – The Roosevelt Fire Department deployed their recently acquired fireboat to extinguish a jet ski fire on Sunday near Esopus Island on the Hudson River.

According to Roosevelt Fire Chief Lew Darrow, the jet ski was tied to the north tip of the island when it caught fire.  The fireboat was on scene within ten minutes of the call and went to work extinguishing the fire.

Once the fire was out, the jet ski was towed to the Poughkeepsie Yacht Club by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) marine unit.

The two people that had been aboard the watercraft prior to the fire were uninjured.  In addition to the UCSO, Roosevelt was assisted by the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department Marine 1, Kingston  Marine 1, New York State Police, and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
